Some people develop a Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event. A PTSD is developed when a trauma is not properly processed. Even the smallest of daily-life triggers can then bring back those memories of the trauma, often accompanied by intense emotional and physical reactions. They continue to feel “unsafe”, even when the danger is not currently present.
An EMDR therapy session is preceded by several Counseling sessions in which we assess your ability to cope with (heavy) emotions and have the background information we need for our EMDR session(s). After several Counseling sessions, we start with a double EMDR session (120 min) and have a follow-up session a week later.
